Check State Plans Podcast Series

Last spring the Collaborative for Student Success teamed up with Bellwether Education Partners to conduct a peer review of each of the 17 state education plans submitted in accordance with the Every Student Succeeds Act.

In a few weeks we will release the analysis conducted on the additional 34 state plans submitted in September. We believe these state plans are important because quality plans – transparent, specific, and based on best practices – are more likely to improve outcomes for students.

In anticipation of our second release we have launched a three-part podcast series that will examine how the process began, what peer reviewers found in the first round, and what reviewers hope to see in the second batch of state plans.

Podcast 1:

In the first podcast, Collaborative for Student Success Executive Director Jim Cowen is joined by Bellwether Education Partner’s Andy Rotherham. The two discuss the partnership efforts between the organizations, the peer review process itself, and the participants.

Podcast 2:

In the second podcast, Collaborative for Student Success Executive Director Jim Cowen is joined by round one peer reviewers Paige Kowalski from the Data Quality Campaign, and John Bailey from the American Enterprise Institute. They discuss the reviews conducted in the spring – what were they looking for, what they learned, and how they applied those findings to the round two states.

Podcast 3:

In the third podcast, Collaborative for Student Success Executive Director Jim Cowen concludes the series with Dale Chu, an independent consultant, and David Mansouri of Tennessee SCORE. They explore what reviewers were looking for in round two submissions and how they hope states will implement these plans.
